Lachua lagoon Laguna de Lachuá

The most amazing lagoon ever, trust me. Nature all around, birds, exotic life, saraguates and crystalline and frequently warm waters await for you.
Lachua is in fact a National Park. Camping is allowed and there is a ranch over there where you can put up your tent.
Remember there are some mosquitoes over there.
There are no hotels or restaurants around. The efforts to preserve the place just as it is are worth it. Remember taking everything you need with you.
Is not an easy road for normal driving, consider taking a bus or renting a 4wd car or 4x4. The winter can make the road really unaccessible.
Just as you get to the place forget everything... A trail takes you into the jungle for about 4 kilometers reaching the lagoon. No music or fishing allowed.
What to expect at Lachua
- A lot, a dream that became true. This place is paradise.
- The weather is frequently fresh and warm depending on the season. Expect some rain on winter.
- The water is crystalline, enough to see your toes standing into the water.
- Fishing is not allowed. Watch your behavior as the guides really take care of preserving peace over the place.
- The fish just don't know what it is to be hunted, so if you stay quiet enough they will approach to you and take little bites at your skin trying to find out what or who you are.
- Avoid swimming at night. The place is 100% safe but there are confirmations about crocodiles around. They use to stay at the other side of the lagoon but yes again, they have been seen at the side of the camp site.
- Prepare ALL you kneed from Chisec as you will not find any store, gas station or so as you approach to Lachua.
How to get to Lachua
Follow Carretera al Atlantico reaching Coban. From there head to Chisec for about 3 more hours. Stay on the road heading north and you will see a turn to your left to Lachua.
The complete drive from Guatemala City is about 1 day, trust me, you won't regret it. Consider stopping by at Chisec unless you get out of the city really early.
The reason is quite simple, they don't allow any visitors to enter the place after 16:00 hours.
