Iximché, the last Maya capital

In 1463 founded the Cakchiquel Iximché without knowing it would become the last Maya capital city and first capital of Spanish conquest.
At present, Iximché is a beautiful Mayan ceremonial center where various rituals are celebrated ancient and modern Mayan descendants own. He has won fame and visits by local and foreign cultural and religious importance.
It was in 1524 when the Spanish conquered the city and established his first capital here.
Remained in place but then locals showed hostility to the invasion. Later the capital was moved to the Valley of Almolonga under the name of "Santiago de los Caballeros in Guatemala."
Touring Iximché

After extensive parking, just enter Iximché can see immediately the complex.
Welcomes a map explaining the distribution of the ruins.
The ceremonial places reach 15 feet high to be a reflection of the period Postlásico Maya recognized as the decline and end of the Mayan civilization.
The whole area is dressed in green and surrounded by a beautiful forest. The climate is cool to cold.
For its beauty, Iximché has become a frequently visited site. Its green areas around the squares have become a center of recreation and entertainment area for locals and visitors in general.
It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm daily.
For lunch or overnight
In the vicinity and to the side of the road that passes by Tecpán towards Solola (Atitlán) is Tecpán Shelters. (Tecpán have two incomes, use the second where you will also find the entrance to Shelter Tecpán). This is a beautiful eco hotel with various recreation areas and exquisite restaurant. Also, there Katok and Rincon Suizo minutes away by little (the latter are only restaurants).
In all these you can enjoy an excellent quality of cheeses, meats, hardware (roasted sweet bread) and natural preserves.
To reach Iximché
Take the Interamerican Highway leading to Tecpan, Solola and Xela (Quetzaltenango). About 88 km will be the second income to Tecpán that will take you downtown. There must be consulted to continue its path followed through the streets of town as you'll see many are "dual track." (Is a bit confusing to explain). When you reach the road to Iximché crossings where there are no longer lost.

It is located between the edge of the departments of Chimaltenango, Guatemala and Quiche. The climate of the site is warm, so it is recommended to be covered to prevent sunburn, use sunscreen also. It

Located in Tecpan, it takes about an hour and a half driving from Guatemala City or by bus. It is known as the last capital city of the mayas, founded in 1463 by the cakchiqueles.
