Palencia trails

Pico de Palencia. Foto cortesía de fotosdeguatemala.com Palencia is a privileged place in the proximity of the city, excellent road access, good development and a cool climate despite being east of Guatemala, often associated with warm weather.

Famous for the quality and size of your vegetables, nursery and natural range, has many water springs and streams that supply drinking water to the population entirely.

It is also known for its peak Tomastepeque "or Pico de Palencia. This is part of a mountain is an attractive and frequently visited by children, local and foreign.

To get there take the Atlantic Road and follow signs indicating the crossing to Palencia to the right. After arriving at the center, crosses to the left and find a sign indicating the way to an ecological reserve called Calahua.

This same road leads to the Peak of Palencia

On the trails where you can appreciate the variety of birds typical of the region.  You can reach on foot but are at least 4-5 miles of walking. A sedan can enter without problems, but we must see it in winter, soil moisture makes frequent jams.

Once you arrive at the foot of Pico de Palencia, take a small path located at the base, to the left.

Also you can undertake the ascent to the peak, starting with the steps that placed for easy access. In another article in this website, you will find details of the ascent to the peak.

The trail leads around the base of the beak and lets you listen and watch the birds (birdwatching) and nature. One must be careful not to disturb the quiet life of the place.

It is a particularly wet and must wear suitable shoes to avoid slipping.

It is also advisable to wear concealing clothes for shorts and shirts only expose us to mosquitoes.

Palencia trails
The natural spectacle is quite impressive, able to observe natural specimens worthy of being captured in photographs.

The sudden flight of birds can scare beginners in the trekking.

One advantage of visiting this place is the education of the inhabitants. They are very accessible and people will not hesitate to give directions to any visitor.

Like any journey between nature, silence is important because the noise scares the animals and can even trigger attacks of bees, which tend to react in this way only noise ... as I witnessed an attack of bees in Amatitlán, just to make noise ... but that's another story.

Although quite simple hotel in the place, a guide, or the help of a local person is recommended, not because it is unsafe. Simply because some places do not use fences and unknowingly, to walk in it, may be invading private property.
