Cerro Grande (Big hill) in San Vicente Pacaya

An excellent idea to start climbing the Cerro de Palencia (Tomastepek or Tomastepeque), use the site's search engine and enter "Palencia" to locate the note.
The other option is the Cerro Grande.
You're like 45 minutes to an hour from the capital, is located just opposite the Pacaya Volcano.
Difficulty of ascent is low, it is ideal if you want something different sandy volcano that is in front. I have decided to recommend it because it is simply very good the way, also because maybe you can pass as many ... who prefer green and fresh to the dry and sandy.
In fact, many people enter the Pacaya Park (protected area) with the sole idea of climbing this mountain, instead of the Pacaya Volcano. It is certainly an option to consider if you go with your family and your children are still small, remember that green is good ground to play.
How to get there
Travel to the highway leading to the coast, south, just as if you travel to Escuintla. Amatitlán let your left and after several minutes you'll see signs pointing the way to Pacaya. Take back and get directly to the parking of the volcano, before the Laguna de Calderas (if you came to the lake, you went). Pay your deposit and start your ascent.
You'll find that you leave the forest is cleared ascent to the volcano and the Cerro Grande on your left, now I get to choose. Bon voyage.
