Surrounded by lava in the volcano Pacaya

Una de las salidas de lava. Foto: ExploradorIf you are someone who watch TV all the time, it will be useless to explain to you how amazing it was to walk over a large area of hot rock with underground rivers of lava.

Needless to say how hot the environment and to be an underground lava output was sufficient for us to feel that the face and clothes were burning.

For us, the better if we do not think, so maybe you dare to go ...

For several weeks the Pacaya volcano increased its activity, fumaroles appeared on the way up to now prevented to reach the cone.

Alike, the "plate" of the base where many wrote her name with rocks, lava is full of slow moving and several outputs red-hot liquid rock.

The view is worth it and to reflect on the incompetence and arrogance of the man believed to be greater than nature. Some parts stand out for the speed of movement and other red as shown between the gray of the rock.

A strong river

From afar it looks normal, like any scene seen on TV, HOWEVER, when approaching the shore, you see pieces of rock that semueven are quite large. Other extremely heavy.

Sometimes the push was not enough to move large pieces curved, and as bubbles, some broke and let out the liquid rock that kept indoors.

To get to the good need to come and walk on lava seca.Muchos distances to walk it possible to see through cracks, Lalava that was below us.

A dangerous journey

One of the cracks
molten lava. Photo: Explorer.

Most of the road is the style of "blister" for its curved shape, and more interestingly, many of these bubbles dry, and broken, brittle warned of the land (with high temperatures below), as evidenced tunnel thereunder.

Some tourists hesitated and parties being held in "safe", but little by little, the phrase "so close only happens once in a lifetime" was enough to ignite the curiosity and excitement for all to continue.

Risk smelling

Was common sense the smell of burning shoe leather, as the temperature was high enough for this case. But there's nothing like saying "I saw with my own eyes, I felt the heat of the lava" instead of settling for what the TV shows you.

Sure, it's risky and must be prepared to go running in terror, despite the risk that this also implies, run in crisp and hot lava. If you are too nervous or upset, think, and always acompáñate with a group of people that inspires confidence and trust. (And not leave you lying in an emergency)

Most interestingly, the river of lava

El calor era sumamente intenso. Algunas rocas eran quebradizas y la suela de los zapatos se comenzaba a derretir. Foto: Explorador.Hesitated for a moment, the same kind of curiosity closer and closer to us while we thought up the dry river. Suddenly enticement and accompanied by a local guide, strangers and acquaintances, we encourage you to walk together without stopping.

The heat was daunting and several sections made it difficult to breathe. He did not feel the smell of sulfur, only a tremendous heat.

Then we reached a place that we could not pass, and later sedestacaba a kind of crowd. Several onlookers were up, shouted a word of astonishment (or chapina as "the great ...") and return.

Provoked the curiosity of the other approach and a repeat of the scene.

This degree takes just two outputs of molten lava, liquid, powerful ... that left quietly without penalty in front of us.

We threw some coins and falling, it sounded as if they had fallen on metal. Do not expect to see them melt but took them off our channel soon.

Wooden shed on the runway caused immediate flames.

Us closer

We were about two feet from the exit, the heat was unbearable and we warmed his face as could be, the camera was already hot. Some with water bottles in their fanny packs, the boats returned with bent, others with the sole of the shoes deformed, however, took photographs and video worth remembering.

We try as much as possible by taking pictures that gave the idea delo close we were and we thought (well, others remained in casavíctimas zapping), which is change and change channels without stopping.

Like another planet

It started raining and the water evaporated by all around us from the heat.

The steam clouds gave the impression of star standing in a time bomb which, really well, since pressure can change in an instant and that ant fly, or ground breaking leave us at the mercy of lava.

For some this is presumed ...

Uno de los turistas tomó un poco de lava con un bastón, que ardío al instante. Foto: Explorador. And for the adventurous, the words that arouse interest, to be surrounded by lava.

What do you think?, Well, apart from "hand, we can die right now!" And "go, where I stand", the truth is that little thought ... Regret is completely hijacked by a sense of wonder at seeing yfascinación force of nature that surrounds us and solemosolvidar. It is a good milestone for ears that reminds us of our place, Yque the truth, no one conquers the mountains or volcanoes ... sencillamentenos give "permission to climb."

How awesome is that? You have to see it yourself ...
How close we came to the lava? Would not believe (we still do not get out of amazement)

A place for everyone

If you are squeamish, there's vegetation, forest ... there are sandy and open spaces also close to the lava hot, cold on top of the monument, in short, a little for everyone, so there is no excuse. Search this site notes on the Pacaya and discover how to get ... and encourage to feel that life runs through your veins to be a time when the real world in which we live.
