From the Maya to the Spanish colony

In what is now Guatemalathere were several kingdoms and descendants of the Maya cities: Mam in HuehuetenangoZaculeu occupied, the Kichen in the department of Quiché, Utatlán City.
There were also other well-defined groups such as zutujiles, Kaqchikel Uspanteco, pipiles and Ixil.
Departed from Spain while the first boats in search of another route to India (not knowing discover America), Guatemalan soil existing peoples were at war.
The history of Maya civilization, full of confrontation, hatred and cities in eternal war is felt in its descendants.
Mayan peoples in conflict
The Spanish found pueglos divided and at odds, this facilitated the work of conquest as it was said that "the enemy of your enemy is my friend." Thus, some villages were allied with the Spanish to subdue their enemies, but to his surprise, all ended in the Spanish power.
