Cave of the two hours at Finca Ixobel

Cave Villa Ixobel two hours, PeténIf you are near Poptún, Petén, take the time to visit Finca Ixobel, whose entrance sign is visible from the road.

Viewed by many foreign tourists and domestic travelers, is a natural area with lodging, restaurant buffet and a large camping area.

Km inside from the rear of the farm trails, begins a tour led to promises and fulfills the whole premise of refreshing adventure in the dark.

The heat in the area is felt strongly on the way to the Cave of the Two Hours ... A curious name that reflects the approximate time needed to reach a cave filled with water.

After a good stretch began to intern in the vegetation, which provides refreshing moment in that hot climate, some people ask for water temperature, and hearing that is cold, promise bathers dive without delay.

The simple and shy hidden input does not reflect the excitement and beauty that the cave, but the sound of water brings joy to anyone who finally arrives.

If you do not know the place, we recommend taking a guided tour with guides available on the Fine Ixobel, in this case, upon arrival, the guide prepared for the journey and candles lifesaver for some. Carry a headlamp for convenience.

After a few seconds inspecting the entry, we were surprised by the temperature of water, which certainly would cool to anyone: it was extremely cold!

We entered and immediately the water reaches the waist, about 5 yards ahead and the water came up to his shoulders ... Some lifeguards other swimming and begins the journey ...

Entrance to the Cave

The rocky walls, smooth and clear around the whole picture, the water left to see the bottom of the runners who passed along.

It was all very exciting and we finally reached the first of several installments in which it was necessary to swim ... and the rocky soil was not seen by most to be light ... A couple of chills to fully immerse themselves and go ...

For those who can not swim should not have any fear, because the jacket provides a great convenience, allowing you to enjoy travel lying down, floating without problems.

The soil is mostly smooth the effect of wear caused by flowing water, but is recommended to wear flip flops or some kind of comfortable shoes, as some parts or too smooth, or have sharp protrusions that may be.

Unfortunately, the darkness makes it difficult to photograph, and as any fan of caves know, the humidity is so high in the atmosphere that the flash light is dissipated effectively preventing illuminating objects ...

At the end of the trail we found several underground waterfalls that are a spectacular, just a few large pools of which one can jump from natural springboards.

It was here that we stopped it to continue, you need to dive and swim under water and rock (which is extremely dangerous) to reach the other side, completely separate bedrooms that are still inside.

There are those who have the courage to continue, but it is necessary to note that in these cases, ventilation and oxygenation is much lower.

It was here where we witnessed inspecting swimming pools crystal shrimp jumping semi moving at full speed when trying to approach them.

It is certainly a trip worth making for your next holiday or a weekend off.

I recommend you do not forget your camera because in the course of the farm to the cave, it is possible to witness beauty like this, a shy snake resting between rocks at the roadside.

It is important to avoid the flip-flop sandals for your own comfort as the area is full of life and do not like being bitten by an insect while walking, we recommend closed shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and cap.

Do not forget to bring plenty of water as the heat is most intense when the sky is clear.
