Archaeological site in Sayaxché Ceibal

Ceibal was discovered in 1892 by Federico Arts. The site's name refers to the huge ceiba trees that can be seen there.
Ample parking and welcome dense vegetation at the site of Ceibal. From the entrance you can see the trails that have been found and kept at the sight of visitors.
Guides and guardianship has very friendly and you can camp at the site asking for permission.
The archaeological complex has many structures, mostly hidden in the jungle.
At the time of our visit only two estructuraspropiamente sticking reconstructed, one is in the square: a Mayan temple with a pyramid-shaped trail in the top and others at the base, and the segundaestructura corresponds to an astronomical observatory as its characteristic staircase circularcon .
It is known that Ceibal was dominated by a clan of warriors Putun Mayan traders. During its heyday, from 700 to 900 AD, Ceibal came to house over 10,000 inhabitants.
In****ions reveal that place consequences also for the power struggles of the Maya cities Petexbatún: Dos Pilas, Aguateca Tamarindigo and Arroyo de Piedra. Ceibal also actively participated in that fight trying to gain power in the region but his government failed in the attempt.

Both the restored temple, observatory, contrails and the field of Mayan ball game makes it worth the walk through the vegetation.
The peaceful area makes listening to howler monkeys that are kept nearby. Likewise, even if they are to be heard 3 miles away, but not having a lot of infrastructure around in Ceibal her screams can be perceived with great force.
Ceibal is Sayaxché near the municipality of Peten, so it is feasible to visit from Flores or, from Chisec, department of Coban.
To visit Ceibal
From Flores, head south to Sayaxché, since then travel south to Raxrujá and on the road you can see the crossing to Ceibal.
To visit Ceibal from the City of Guatemala is taken to Coban Atlantic Road, from there to Chisec and then north. Just before reaching Sayaxché the sign will mark the detour.
No required auto wheel drive or 4x4, but in winter the ground gets hard.
One morning or afternoon to visit enough Ceibal from Flores or from Chisec. Now, visit Ceibal from Coban or from the City of Guatemala requires a full day and overnight to make the trip well.
To stay one should choose Ceibal Sayaxché or camping, as there is no tourist infrastructure at the site. Sayaxché has comfortable hotels, lodges and restaurants to choose from.
