The leading American Highway on its way to Los Encuentros. From here, take about thirty minutes to Chichicastenango and clear with their respective signs.

Most travelers usually accustomed to reach the center of the department of Quiché main attraction before knowing the other parts of the same, however, in the case of Quiché, many people tend to return after meeting Chichicastenango, only one of their destinations, because Quiché has many beautiful places.

Santa Cruz del Quiché

This is the name of the departmental capital and is located just 19 miles from Chichicastenango.



After going through the traditional and colorful Gucumatz Arco Chichicastenango, our starting point, in a few minutes we reach Santa Cruz del Quiché. The whole industry is properly paved.

Is derived from Ku Gucumatz Cumatz, founder of the capital Quiche of the past.

Many are often surprised of urbanization and infrastructure of the center of the department.

As almost all the departments of Guatemala, the city developed around a central square or park, with the main church and town hall.

It is curious that some foreigners feel the same curiosity about traditional foods, such as the almost emblematic Pollo Campero (forgive the advertising ...).

It is not necessary to walk far to change the flavor. A few steps from Central Park is this restaurant and although I am also a consumer of the ... I can never resist the taste of traditional food in the same place I visit ... A number restaurants and canteens offer variety and taste.

Or if the traveler is encouraged, like us, breakfast in the market is the best.

Tourist Options

Improvise a change of plans is easy and simple. Instead of returning to the City by the Pan American Highway, with a sedan car, you can go from here to the caves of Gumarkaj - Kumarcaaj (this short stretch is unpaved), chicha, Pachalum and return by Mixco Viejo.
