Antigua Guatemala

La Antigua Guatemala was the principal city of Guatemala after the first shipment (originally located in the Valley of Almolonga).
There was destroyed by the torrents of water down the volcano and relocated here in what is now La Antigua Guatemala.
Was destroyed by the earthquakes of Santa Marta in 1773 so the city was moved again to its final destination where it is now, in the Valle de la Ermita.
But La Antigua Guatemala has never lost its importance and its beauty. Many inhabitants thereof refused to move and tried to rebuild it so blasted authorities to complete some structures to discourage pushy.

Beautiful and unique among beautiful colonial cities
Several cities in the world are remarkable for their beauty and history of colonial times as the city of Merida, Izamal, Valladolid (all in Mexico) and even Cuba, but none has so many features and qualities as La Antigua Guatemala, which keeps even its streets citywide.
No modern building interrupts the continuity of colonial architecture.
Among sources, government buildings, ancient dwellings and other buildings, now the city is all an amalgam of history, architecture and colonial resort.
History
After discovering this land so fertile and beautiful near the volcano of water, began to be populated in 1524 and later as a city founded in the year 1543. It was established as capital of the Kingdom has become one of the most important cities in the Americas.
As the new and most important city of the kingdom (in fact its capital) in a new continent, attracted and was the scene of great artists, sculptors and painters who dressed with the best of the time. This is a key factor to understand the reason for the flowering of all the colonial cities of social and political significance in America and especially in La Antigua Guatemala.

Memorial and Heritage
