Fire Volcano Volcán de Fuego

Volcán de FuegoClimbing this volcano is not easy. It is very important to begin climbing easy volcanos and go from there to more difficult summits.

However, as most difficult routes the Fire ascent is fun. You have to climb Acatenango first, then go up and down to the Fire to return through Acatenango again. It's a weary road and not suitable for beginners. Remember that the "Obey" is the third highest volcano in Guatemala, reaching nearly 4,000 meters above sea level.

Mountain sickness usually occurs in the untrained, struggling physically, around 2,500 meters above sea level.

The proposed route is particularly attractive.

Having gone many times Acatenango, "triple" is mostly a project of resistance and will, and for frequent climbers, a luxury for those with time ... so we propose a route with varied scenery (if you went to the top of Acatenango).

As always, we prefer to get on the Route Acatenango of the Hunters, coming much faster. GPS refers to both routes, Hutch and Hunters to climb Acatenango this link.

In this way we reach the end of what we call "The Road" and from there comes the trick: a long trail around the top of Acatenango providing beautiful scenery, especially the views of Volcan de Agua and Pacaya.

On average it takes about two hours and a half to reach the union of two volcanoes on this road leisurely pace. Hour and a half in a hurry.

Camping midpoint

Atardecer desde la unión de los volcanes Acatenango y Fuego.

The view of the sunset from the union of Acatenango volcanoes and Fire is worth the walk.

Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes joined by a ridge. In fact volcanoes are considered siblings.

Volcano of Fire being a giant on, this is the last safe point is recommended for camping. Above is another top where you could, but it is too exposed and close to the main peak containing the crater.

Here a forest surrounding the spaces suitable for camping, which helps keep out the wind. Needless to say, the landscape at sunset is spectacular.

The last stretch to the Fuego

Fire Volcano
The point of camping is safe, yet powerfully heard the rumbling of the volcano and the occasional jolt. The safety of the tent seems to fade to hear as loud sounds and then hear the rain of sand that each one causes.

However, the journey continues ... From here you can see a pinnacle that leads to the trails that ascend to the top end.

There is no defined way because not many people walking around here. But it comes up without losing.

Once you come up easily to the main crater. It is worth mentioning that it is dangerous. The rumblings are strong and we got several jolts.
Likewise, the activity of Volcán de Fuego varies during the year and is unpredictable, so carefully.

For those who frequently visit these volcanoes, we have noticed that the activity of Volcán de Fuego just generally increase in December, by the end of the year.

Ascent route

This is the GPS trace the route around the Acatenango to reach the Volcano of Fire.

Available at the section Volcano GPS routes . And directly in the path of ascent to the volcano GPS Acatenango and Volcan de Fuego .

NO is an easy climb for beginners. Similarly, a GPS route does not replace a guide. You need to know to use these devices, some navigation and mountain experience.
