The grapes in Eastern Guatemala

Just after the department of El Progreso and minutes before they reach the Wellness Pasabién find a perfectly straight road section, you might not know but you are in Zacapa.
In this section you will find sales of fresh grapes and grape juice to the cold side of the road. The region is hot and the vineyards are not own the place so it does not always had grapes in Usumatán: its cultivation began around 1978, mostly driven by Philipe Philipe of Belgium.
During colonial times, the grape was traded and much appreciated. There were vineyards in the Alta and Baja Verapaz but production did not reach significant levels. was in the eighties that farmers began their cultivation Usumatlán pure commercial purposes. . Needless to say, these grapes are delicious.
Their trade has not exactly been massive and find local grapes only about the region, partly because due to the terrain and climate, there are other crops that farmers are more attractive and lucrative. Additionally, the grape is very persecuted by birds ... and if you've had a look around the region, know that while it is hot, there are delicious sources of water and especially abundant bird life.
Remember for next time ...
... Taste the grapes on your way to Zacapa, Chiquimula, Izabal and Peten land; find this commercial area after an hour and a half away from Guatemala City. A mile later you will find sales of fresh fruit, especially melons, white melons and watermelons. Just in this region can stay at any of the other budget hotels on the edge of the road. The most famous are the Atlantic and Longarone.
